A Special Message from Partners for Peace

As we prepare for the 12th National Jerusalem Women Speak: Three Women, Three Faiths, One Shared Vision tour. The support of our friends and colleagues is ever more important. Please read this special message from Partners for Peace Founder and President Jerri Bird and Chairwoman Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah.
Dear Friends,

As we write today, Lebanon remains in crisis — that nation now struggles around the clock to bring essential life support services to its citizens — to restore order within its communities — and to engage in the daunting task of rebuilding its national infrastructure and maintaining its viability as a nation state.

As is the case with Lebanon, Palestinian citizens in Gaza have withstood daily IDF bombings and military incursions and a total devastation of their civil society. After decades of war and military occupation, the citizens of Palestine and Israel urgently long for peace and a return to stability in their daily lives.

Partners for Peace is now in the final stage of preparations for our 2006 Jerusalem Women Speak Tour. The message of this year’s Tour will be that the emergent situation in the Middle East highlights the need for a peaceful and final resolution of the Arab Israeli conflict — a resolution that will promote the rule of law and a return to stability and order — and to a new era that will guarantee dignity and human rights for every citizen of the region.

More than ever before, we need your generous financial support this year — to offer a message of hope and solidarity — by bringing the voices of women of the region to the American audience via our annual Jerusalem Women Speak Tour.

The Israeli and Palestinian women who will participate in the 2006 Jerusalem Women Speak Tour (see enclosed brochure) take daily risks at home to work for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. They come to report to American audiences the trauma that the conflict has inflicted on their communities and their desire for a life of security based on the rule of law and community stability.

We are depending on you to help us meet the challenges of this current critical period by donating to our work – so that the Jerusalem Women Speak Tours will succeed in bringing the voices of Israeli and Palestinian women — voices that are rarely heard in the US – to American audiences.

Many persons to whom these women will speak may never before have had the opportunity to meet and learn about the experiences of persons from the Middle East region. The women will speak from the heart about the costs of war and its devastation — but they will also give a message of hope and they are depending on us – as we depend on you — to help get their message out to the American public.

Since 1998 the Jerusalem Women Speak Tour has been an efficient and effective method of bringing the important and crucial issue of Middle East peace to the American public. The JWS tour has touched the hearts and minds of Americans from coast to coast through person to person contacts — by reaching out to mass audiences through media presentations on CSPAN and other television, radio and online channels — and through the print media — as well as behind the scenes for discussions with major editorial boards and prominent pundits and public figures

We need your generous financial support to make the 2006 tour an even greater success than in previous years. This year, the 12th Jerusalem Women Speak Tour will visit the Atlantic seaboard from Washington, DC, to Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and then on to Vermont – and as an added bonus, every dollar you donate will be matched! One of our foundation supporters has offered in 2006 to match the dollars we raise so that Partners for Peace will obtain additional funds when you contribute. We need your extra help to meet this challenge.

Individuals like you make our work possible by providing the financial support necessary to give our speakers the resources and support they need for their voices to be heard loud and clear. We ask you to make a commitment to peace in Palestine and by donating to our work – Please send your contribution today!

Palestinians and Israelis face the prospects of a bleak future unless the world hears and responds to their crisis — it is our task to bring their voices to people of good will who will listen to their message and respond to their pleas for help.

We urgently need your help to continue to inform the American public about the significant role that the US plays in the region — how our foreign policy impacts the daily lives of the citizens of Israel and Palestine — and the myriad ways that we, as active citizens, can contribute to changing the current situation.
Yours Sincerely,

Jerri Bird
Founder and President

Alma Abdul-Hadi Jadallah
Chairwoman
P.S. Only with your financial support is Partners for Peace able to carry on the work of bringing the voices of citizen “ambassadors for peace” to American audiences. Please send your check today as we prepare for the 2006 Jerusalem Women Speak Tour!
